Fully Functional Viking Model!
by masterofhobbiton (Watch for feedback, Add to favorites)

w00t! Karune mentioned this on the blizz forums!

I now present the fully functional lego terran viking. Yes, it really transforms without me having to remove or add any pieces, it all works on lego hinges and other pieces. It's not exactly accurate to the actual final design because a. things just collapse into other things and stuff that's impossible for legos and b. because I couldn't look at the pictures while working on the lego at the same time. I hope you guys all like it, it was almost impossible to make!

Hehe, thanks guys. PhantomMarine: I'll probably end up taking it apart, I took apart several other custom legos to make it in the first place.

Exceptional. It's not even a question.

I mean, you're missing some things from the Viking design, like the fins on the wings (it's also too tall and not broad enough in mech mode), but those are really just small quibbles.

The mere fact that it can actually transform is in itself, incredible. The fighter mode is just brilliant! Truly ingenious!

For the fins I actually ran out of peices to change the angle to make the plates stick up because I used them all for the transformation. (sheepish)

No, you can't really tell because its in the shadows but the feet have a part that sticks out at the back to stop it tipping backwards, so it's actually pretty stable. After the transformation the feet are up against the bottom of the ship's hull, those flaps in the back of the fighter mode are the peices of the feet I'm talking about.

If you want to insult me, can you please, uh, do it in PMs or something? I'd kind of like it if you keep comments on the work actually about the work instead of my own comments. Also, I don't really think that's called for, obviously someone thinks I'm not just wasting my time posting garbage because people commented and favorited. Just a little confusing.

Kekeke, legos. Hey I'd think you'd be interested in something called lego digital designer, it is on the lego website if you want it.

The Viking model is ok. I've seen better, but still, it's good. And about Lego Digital Designer. THAT IS THE SLOWEST PROGRAM IN THE WORLD. It barely has any bricks either. You should stick with making lego medels like that.

Really, there's more? Where did you find another one, half of why it was so hard was because I had to come up with ways for everything to work, references from someone elses lego model might help me make a better one.

I'm sorry, I meant better lego models, not specifically the Viking. You did do good, considering that Starcraft 2 isn't out yet. Did you look at the Viking tranformation on http://www.starcraft2.com/features/terran/viking.xml, that might help. I can post some advice if you want. There are also other lego- based websites that could help if that dosen't work.

I thought about it for some time and I think you should first of all stock up on some Exo-Force Lego sets. Thoses will include the sort of pieces you would need to improve you current model. If that dosen't work, then you can try some Bionicle joints. The ground cannons would benifit most from a type of flexible joint like a bionicle one. Using such a joint would allow you to use the large, rotating cannons instead of those small ones in your pictures, becuase it could allow them to fold out of the way when you fold the wings up. Next to improve the Viking you should either shrink down the size of the legs or the lower part of the body of it. (this will help some of the peices collapse into each other more so it will look better in flight mode. If possible replace some of the peices in the front of the body of it to make it look more realistic. Slightly increasing the wing size wouldn't hurt either, if you have the right peices.
I hope my addvice helps
