Legions of heavy shock-troops were advancing down the hall. Captain Smithfield leapt up, grasping the pipes overhead. From above the pipes, she drew the stolen combat knife, and waited for her fate to unfold. As the shock-troops stopped just before the door, they drew their plasma rifles, and aimed up...into the pipes. Smithfield dropped from the pipes above, slitting the throat of a troop as she descended. As she looked up, she saw every last troop aiming their plasma rifles right at her. Captain Smithfield stood back, accepting her demise. Soon, a single shock-troop stepped forward, and aimed his plasma rifle at the side of her head. Instantly, the troop turned, shooting a fellow warrior. He slammed the butt of his rifle into the face of another. Ducking under a volley of plasma rifle fire, he tripped yet another warrior, simply trying to survive. Smithfield, simultaneously drew her revolvers, and open fired on the sea of enemies. As the last bullet left the camber of her revolvers, she holstered them, and drew her C-10 canister rifle. With a single shot, she blew the head off of the next soldier in line. Despite the shock-troops' superior numbers, the betrayer had created a "traffic jam" so to speak. The betrayer soon grabbed another plasma rifle, and firing both at once, he cut down the enemy ranks. Smithfield dropped her canister rifle, in favor of her plasma pistol and combat knife. Captain Smithfield leapt over her new savior, as she slit the throat of one warrior and fired a bolt of plasma into another. Finally, the last shock-troop hit the ground, still smoking.
"I knew you'd turn up, Jack." said Captain Smithfield, as she reclaimed her canister rifle.
"I was a little...busy." responded Jack, as his visor disappeared.
"Come on, we have to find the others." ordered Captain Smithfield.
"Yes ma'am."
Meanwhile, Sarius and Scott were also tied up with enemy guards. Scott fired down the scrap-filled hall, as four dragoons walked down the corridor, with 2 shock-troops providing cover-fire. With a single blast, Sarius shattered the ceiling, causing a mound of rubble to bury the dragoons alive. Sarius and Scott climbed the rubble up to the next floor. "Hurry, we are almost at the control room." said Sarius as he ran down the halls. The door opened, just as they reached the control room.
"Long time no see, brother." said a dark templar, as he uncloacked himself.
"Tel'ka, how can you betray your people like this?" said Sarius.
"You two are brothers?" said Scott unbelievingly.
"Yes, our family disowned him, after he deserted the order of the templar, to chase this new, dark magic." explained Sarius.
"You are the betrayer!" interrupted Tel'ka.
"Me! Am I not the one who overcame the zerg invasion on mar sara?" said Sarius.
"Look at you, siding with the earthlings. I abandoned our old ways, brother, not our people."
"Look at you, bringing arms against your own flesh and blood."
"You said it yourself, you disowned me."
"That doesn't mean you aren't family."
"Heh, thats just what our father said...just before my blade dealt with him."
"You bastard!"
"This is one crazy fucker." Scott said to himself.
"And what of our mother?" asked Sarius.
"She died of age, before I could lay a finger on her."
"You lie!"
"I only did what was necessary. I am not ashamed, I need not lie."
"You're a monster."
"I am the savior of our race! How can you not understand?"
"I understand perfectly."
"No, you dont. But I will give you one final chance to live."
"And that is?"
"Side with me, preserve the purity of our race."
"You've no purity left to preserve."
"You're just like our old man."
"No, I'm not. I can't forgive you as he can."
"What a pity. I'm assuming that means I'll have to do away with you..."
Meanwhile, Captain Smithfield and Lieutenant Jack raced through the corridors, headed for the control room. They entered only to see Scoot and his goliath tossed aside, and Sarius lying opn the ground just before them. As Smithfield and Jack rushed beside Sarius, Tal'ka demanded "Get away from him, we have business to finish." Just then, several high templar rounded the corner. Two merged to become an archon, the other two remained separate, and advanced towards Lieutenant Jack. Jack was surrounded, and the archon was gaining on Captain Smithfield.
"What of the earthlings now?" mocked Tel'ka.
"What about them?" said Sarius, as he rose from the floor.
"You should have accepted my offer, brother." said Tel'ka, as he grabbed his brother by the neck, and lifted him off the floor...
