Templar K’tan
Master-Templar of the Last Vanguard.
Age: 459 Terran Years.

From a young age, K’tan showed immense psionic and physical strength. He had endured unusually brutal training from birth and was quickly entered into the ranks of the zealous warrior Templar. Over many years he perfected his technique, far exceeding his warrior brothers. Under the principles of Dae’Uhl, the Great Stewardship, he went on many expeditions to covertly protect lesser sentient beings from danger. At the age of 60 he already exceeded many of his older peers. His powers were unquestionable and almost matched those of Azreal, leader of the Last Vanguard. Azreal was impressed by the young Templar’s strength. He saw that K’tan was destined for greater things and would soon be more powerful than him. Rumours of this warrior were abounding. Some hypothesised he was Adun reincarnate. Little did they know his similar sense morality would also lead the Templar down a dark path.

Azreal spoke to the Conclave, urging the creatures to recognise K’tan’s talent. He suggested that K’tan be initiated in the secretive process of Tem’Uhl, Warrior Stewardship, where he would serve as the apprentice of one of the greatest Templar.

Ae’Lei took on the young warrior. K’tan learned much from his master, advancing his talents beyond those of his steward. K’tan’s loyalty was unswerving, however and he would not act without his master’s consent. One day Ae’Lei informed his student of the Dark Templar.

Long ago, the Dark Templar separated themselves from their brethren by clinging to old tribal systems and not submitting to the Khala. The Khala would have separated them into the three castes and their tribal histories would be lost. Ae’Lei taught his student that the Conclave had been hunting the Dark Templar for millennia. Over time, K’tan was taught about the dark energies that fuelled these outcasts. Eventually, K’tan began to sympathise with these persecuted peoples and the increasing number of his encounters with the Dark Templar increased his powers beyond those of many of his predecessors. Meanwhile, the Conclave bickered for centuries over K’tan’s fate, having nothing they considered more important and taking for granted the Protoss seat of power in the Koprulu sector.

Many in the Conclave believed that the psionic powers of K’tan would make him the most powerful High Templar ever. Others argued that K’tan would have to forsake his strength, one of his outstanding gifts. His martial prowess was indeed great. After three hundred years, Azreal suggested that K’tan be awarded the Psi-sword. This great artefact, believed to be one of Adun’s twin swords, was presented to K’tan. As K’tan walked up the steps of the Conclave building, the sword began to react violently. Aldaris recognised this and noted it as a signal of something yet to come. Had he known of K’tan’s delving into the dark arts, he may have understood more.

Despite the Conclave’s abhorrence of the Dark Templar, the sword they had just awarded K’tan was a combination of Light and Dark energies. K’tan took up his sword as Tassadar and Azreal looked on.

Azreal spoke to Tassadar. Azreal had sympathised with the Dark Ones for many centuries and knew Tassadar would somehow reunite the Protoss race. Both had hinted at their involvement with the Dark Templar and they had carefully noted the reaction of the sword. Both were believers in the blasphemous theory that the Psi-swords were both light and dark. Tassadar secretly gave Azreal the coordinates of the Conclave’s next strike against the Fallen. Unable to leave Aiur, due to a vow he made upon joining the Last Vanguard, he told Ae’Lei and K’tan of the attack.

Some members of the Conclave had decided to renew the hunt for the Dark Templar covertly. A young warrior, Larok, was ordered to lead an expeditionary force to the nearest heretic colony.

Ae’Lei requisitioned a ship and made contact with Zeratul and Raszagal, two significant Dark Templar leaders. He and K’tan made preparations to hold off the Conclave’s force. In a fierce battle, Ae’Lei, K’tan and a handful of Dark Templar struggled against the Conclave’s forces. The two warriors were carefully disguised but Larok captured Ae’Lei. The Dark Ones escaped. K’tan raced home, hoping to spring his master free. The warrior, however, was too late. After landing on Aiur and racing towards Antioch, where Ae’Lei was being held, he saw vast crowds and ran through to the front. However, this would only allow him to witness the execution of his master. K’tan was thrown into a deep all consuming anger. He prepared for the most violent night of his life.

That night K’tan stormed the palace in which Larok was residing. In the guise of a Dark Templar, he slaughtered Larok’s guards before duelling the Templar. The battle was brief, and K’tan easily defeated Larok before setting fire to his adversary’s palace. Panic took a hold in the Conclave as reports of a lone Dark Templar slaughtering Larok’s men spread across Aiur. Finally, once all Larok’s warriors were dead, the attacks ceased. K’tan now vowed to be on Aiur the day the Conclave fell.

K’tan turned to Azreal, who understood his vow. Azreal and K’tan decided that he should join the Last Vanguard, a society of the most powerful and loyal Templar. Azreal and K’tan made a case to the Conclave and the relatively young Templar was entered at the level of Master-Templar, second only to Azreal. As he made the vow to never leave Aiur, no matter the cost, K’tan could not help but smile.

Azreal and K’tan began to initiate their plan to help Dark Templar infiltrate the Last Vanguard. Ae’Lei and Azreal had both planned this act, to prove a point when the Dark Templar finally returned to Aiur. The Dark Templar posed as servants waiting for a chance to reveal themselves and fight amongst the most esteemed of their brethren. Meanwhile, K’tan looked into the sky, and felt a chill as he did.

The Zerg descended upon Aiur quickly and decisively, tearing the planet apart. Meanwhile, Tassadar had brought the Dark Templar home. He was arrested and tried for treason. Former Praetor Fenix and the Terran Raynor fought to free their friend and mentor. K’tan also covertly protected Tassadar by persuading the forces he commanded not to attack the resistance force, instead convincing them that a Zerg base nearby was a greater threat to the Conclave, and their help fighting the rebels was not really needed. Eventually, Tassadar was freed. He and Zeratul slew two Zerg Cerebrates, leaving the Overmind open to attack. The Conclave finally accepted the Dark Ones but K’tan feared they planned a double cross.

During the Great Battle of Aiur, the Conclave fell under attack. Azreal and most of the Last Vanguard, including the Dark Templar who had only that hour revealed themselves, were killed. K’tan was guarding the building but was ordered to help the Terrans. A young pilot, Artanis, noticed the Terrans were about to be attacked by the Chimera brood, which had split to form two destructive pincers. K’tan and fifty of the Last Vanguard intercepted half of the swarm, giving the Terrans enough time to break Zerg defences, in turn allowing the Dark Templar to attack the Overmind, for only they could slay it. Aldaris too now feared that his fellows would double cross the Dark Ones, the events weighing upon him allowing him to ignore his past prejudices. The Chimera brood then pounced on the fleeing Conclave. Artanis was able to rescue Aldaris, but all the other Judicators died.

Finally, K’tan saw the corrupt Conclave members torn to pieces by the Zerg. For the first time he felt sorrow for the Judicators. He saw the scale of the Zerg destruction as the Overmind beat over the holy soil of his home. In that second, K’tan vowed to cleanse Aiur of the Zerg.

After Tassadar sacrificed himself to kill the Overmind, K’tan saw the Zerg start to scatter. The Zerg began to run riot without guidance, following their last order: Kill the Protoss. K’tan saw his race flee the planet. He remorsefully watched the sky as he saw the remnants of the once great fleets of Aiur leave their home to the Zerg. K’tan hefted his sword and ran into the Zerg swarms. He would always stay on Aiur.
The rest of the Last Vanguard sent distress calls whenever possible. It finally transpired that only K’tan was left. Curiously, his messages were not distress calls, but informed his allies of how his conquest was progressing. Once he even asked what the weather was like up there, resigned to that fact he was isolated and alone, except for the Zerg.

His last message was to Zeratul. It stated that the Zerg had just turned and fled. So it was that of all the beings who ever had done, only K’tan still walked on the holy soil of Aiur. It is believed that he is still there. Waiting. Most believe it is for the Protoss return. Others believe he is steeling himself. For the greatest threat to Aiur, may still be yet to come…

So that was the summary of K'tan's life up until the end of Brood War. I hope him sharing my username doesn't seem too bigheaded ... :S
I will probably go into more detail with events in K'tan's life, following from start to end and maybe exploring some of the newer characters mentioned above.
Hope it was quite interesting, but I'm not expecting Exceptionals for this, so don't be too harsh on it :p

Thanks for changing it. In the future, save your .doc as a .txt (not change the file name, but 'save as') and do character substitution. That'll get it all straightened out.

The story was good. I personally don't like stories using too many heroes from starcraft, but this was okay. I had a character kind of like this once... Juk'Khal.

Ok. Between good and exceptional. Normally, out of good will, I'd vote that it was exceptional, but this time, I voted good.

Nice vocabulary. Keep it up. I like it.

Cheers,
