The small moon hovered over my home Hive cluster, its light casting rays of shadow across the Creep. Only yards away sat dozens of large, slowly swelling eggs that housed my hatching brethren. In an explosion of excess membrane, one of the eggs hatched. In its place stood a fellow Hydralisk, clawing the air as he stretched his scythe-like arms. Several more eggs exploded and soon there were many of us, enough to destroy the Terran presence nearby.
The Cerebrate’s thoughts filled my mind, and my brethren and I were filled with the urge to satisfy our ravenous hunger for the soft flesh of the Terrans. Springing away into the darkness, we were joined by Zerglings emerging from the soft earth. A lumbering Overlord detached itself from the constant patrol around the Hive cluster and glided away after us.
But our speed was unmatched as we raced towards the hill. My urge to kill was released as a metallic building came into view. Opening my chest cavity, I spewed forth many of my needle spines and reveled in the screams of the enemy. A hail of bullets streamed from a nearby bunker, splattering the blood of Zerglings onto the ground. My toughened carapace withstood the terrible onslaught and my brethren joined with me in a barrage of needle spines.
The bunker became a wrecked heap of twisted metal and I leaped forth and devoured the dying inhabitants, their strength becoming my own. The cry of the Overlord disrupted my feasting and I turned to see a white-hot plasma shell descend from the sky, obliterating a Zergling pack into pools of gore.
Again the Cerebrate’s thoughts flooded through my mind and left me full of blind fury and the desire to destroy. There was a flash of light farther up the hill and another plasma shell fell from the sky in a terrible explosion that ripped apart the earth and left more Hydralisks dead.
In my anger, I charged blindly towards the enemy with many of my brethren rushing after me amid a flood of Zerglings. But many more flashes illuminated the sky and a hailstorm of plasma fell among our ranks. The searing heat scorched my thick shell and in a sudden blaze of unreal energy, I exploded in shower of bloody carapace and gore.
The sounds of the battle faded and the sight of the raining plasma grew dim. All was dark, silent, and cold . . . .
But suddenly I could feel my body again, growing beneath a hardening shell. My body stretched as new tissues grew and filled with deadly chemicals. I became aware of the slimy prison that I was enclosed in and another being within it. As it became small and cramped, I burst free with a deafening screech as my fellow Scourge did the same.
Hovering above the Creep, I became aware of a raging battle as my mind and the Cerebrate’s became one. A fleet of enormous ships was positioned directly above the Hive cluster. They unleashed swarms of fighters that engaged the waves of Mutalisks my Cerebrate commanded. One command filled my entire being. Destroy!
I streaked towards the Carriers, ignoring the swarm of Interceptors that threatened to destroy me. Many more of my kind filled the air and we raced to our doom, leaving the Hive cluster far below on the space platform.
The pursuing fighters destroyed scores of us, but we were too many. My brethren reached the ships and their explosions scattered twisted wreckage across the sky. Many of the ships were destroyed and their wreckage slowly drifted downward, their Interceptors falling after them like meteorites.
I too was able to fulfill my crave for destruction. Hurling myself against a remaining ship’s hull, I exploded in a blast of corrosive fluids.
Darkness again claimed me and I fell into a cold and empty void. Once again I felt my body come into being but this time, I felt the power of raw Vespene gas secrete itself through my Egg’s membrane.
My hardening carapace became a solid wall of impenetrable armor and I grew at a tremendous rate. Just when I thought my containment was unbearable, I burst free with a roar. Raw energy flowed through my body as the Cerebrate’s mind embraced mine.
Our enemy had advanced beyond our borders, wreaking havoc among our structures. They must be stopped, hence my creation.
Many more eggs lay scattered around the Hive, growing rapidly upon the Creep. They quickly hatched and an assortment of brethren burst free. There were many Hydralisks, Mutalisks, and Zerglings, but there were none of my own kind, the mighty Ultralisk.
The Cerebrate stretched forth his will and we were all consumed with the desire to destroy these invaders before they reached the precious Hive cluster. As we stampeded down the hill to the advancing forces, I crushed several Hydralisks under my bulk.
Marveling at my incredible strength, I threw myself into the fray. Psi blades flashed but my toughened skin repelled all blows. Crushing all who opposed me, I turned to face a new arrival.
A burning blue sphere of pure energy radiated before me, an ethereal figure enveloped with in it. I could feel its power pulsing through the air. With the reckless hate of my kind, I charged through the battle, rampaging a path to my new enemy.
A blast of power exuded from it, scorching across my bulk like lightning. The Cerebrate’s commands flooded through my mind as I shook off the pain. Destroy it.
My tusks hammered into my enemy with newfound fury. But my blows met with an invisible barrier that defied my strength. Again and again I struck, heedless of the blue lightning that burned me. How many blows I do not know, but in the end, the invisible barrier gave way and in a single strike, the Archon was vanquished.
My strength was spent, but the Cerebrate’s thoughts came again. Protect your brethren! Again I charged recklessly through the heart of the battle, enduring the Psionic Storms that ripped through my body.
At last I reached them, but my brethren were too few now. A massive metal slug sat poised on top of the hill, unleashing its scarabs into my brethren with impunity. I raced through the explosions of Hydralisk gore as I charged towards the Reaver.
Another scarab streaked towards me and in a final blast of shattered carapace and shredded flesh, my pain vanished and I floated into the darkness and cold of the void.
I was in an Egg again, my body twisting and turning as new tissue and muscles grew and stretched. When I emerged, I shot up into the air and hovered there as I awaited instructions from the Cerebrate. Morph!
I turned within myself as I felt chemicals race through my body. Forming a cocoon, I awaited my transformation. My body hardened as I metamorphed to the powerful Guardian.
When I erupted from my prison, my jaws dripped with globs of acid that I craved to unleash upon all who threatened the Swarm. A fleet of my brethren awaited me and together we moved in unison to destroy the Terran presence.

I'd say its a hard thing to do when illustrating what happens within the mind of a zerg, and you did it pretty well. I enjoyed the constant presence of soul throughout the morphings. 9/10! |

I'm not sure that the zerg actually have their own consciousness and turn into another creature, but w/e. I'd this is a pretty nice try at writing of zerg though. | ||||||

Yeah, I don't think the Zerg actually reincarnate either but it was the easiest/coolest way to write about some of the the main species. |

As stated before the Zerg minions have little to no intelligence thus making them easier to control for the Zerg command castes. It felt rushed, though that may have been intentional. Next time try to create more detail and as a suggestion have the "reincarnation" happen through the cerebrates eyes. The cerebrates are experiencing every minion under their control so that could be a way to keep the same personality yet move from unit to unit. 5/10 |

A-W-E-S-O-M-E. One of the best Fan Fic i've seen in ages. Could use a few tweaks, but other than that... |

That was an interesting take on the Zerg. I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said, so I'll just congratulate you on having the guts to write a story from the most awkward viewpoint in the StarCraft universe. |
