YES! ZERG! YIPPEEE! YAY! Oh, and first comment.
The banelings look interesting, and I sure hope those leathery-lookin wings on the mutas dont lat it up too to much
I look at this pictures, and I can't help but think that in some ways, the graphics look even more un-realistic than they did in SC 1.
| Oh AJ, you old you... The resolution of these pictures is bigger then my computer screen.... KOOOOOOOOL! Whilst I somewhat agree with Darkhightemp, I actually don't mind the style. What I'm getting at here is that it looks good for what it is: it doesn't try to look too realistic, ect.. and hence not actually look good. If that made sense. You know a Nintendo DS? Have you seen games on it that try too look realistic? Yea... Anyways, as awesomely wonderful as these picture are, I can't quite help but notice that there ain't much Zerg in the first one... I eat people. -Crazyoldman
They look great. As much as I'd expect it to be in 3D. And a lot more viruses, organic looking.
| Droolness. Finally, info on the Zerg! Really can't wait to see any new Zerg units and/or what they did with the old ones. -Neo
| Oh AJ , i love you man. <3 Hopeless encounters succesfully won Thedutchjelle
Zerglings with wings... if it's like ant's with wings is ok! but they must have some short fly!
| i'm really sorry, but the top left screenshot has no zerg. any-who, blood is same as player colour, overlord looks creepy and zergling hasn't changed a bit. but, on the whole, very cool.
I...I promised, myself... that I... wouldn't c-c-cry...
Hell... It's about time. Finally the zerg are out. I like how the graphics look, but I can't see any zerg in the upper left pic. Could someone point them out?
it's a new ability: complete non-existence
| "it's a new ability: complete non-existence " I lol'd.
| "it's a new ability: complete non-existence" I have to agree with this, all I see are terrans. Unless the zerg can take over Terran vehicles...hrmm....
| Just an extra exclusive screenshot. No zerg there!
| YO THE NEW STARCRAFT BOOK COMES OUT TOMMORROW ITS DARK TEMPLAR SAGA SHADOW HUNTERS BY CHRISTIE GOLDEN
| Finaly the litle creepy bastards are out, now i think there isn´t too much job left on the game, so maybe 4 or 5 months from now and we´ll have SC2 installed on ours cpu. XeroX_"Dark" An agent of the Overmind ¬¬,

| thy showed the same units they've been showing + the overlord. How in god's name does that = almost done? They are still pre-beta
| at least they are pre-beta and thats an advance... although, i like the look of the zerg in starcraft, and im starting to hate those wings on the cute zerglings
I thought those are claws... >_>
isant pre beta be = to gamma
| Nah, in the protoss gameplay vid they flap and glide with 'em, can't be claws. OVERLORDS WITH 8 GREEN EYES? o_O Awesome!
Nice pictures. About quality: People are developing a style these days. A study has been done that players do not like their video games looking too real. So different some video game companies are restraining their artists from their most realistic abilities. Whether or not this is the case I don't know.
| *strains senses for a glimpse of the new hydralisk Hmmm... didn't see one. They're probably saving the best for last; however, its great that there is renewed possibility for zerg information in the next few weeks. I'm compelled to exclaim "Yippee!"
I want to see the Hatchery 3 Level , and the Lurkers!
| masterofhobbiton: 8? I could only count 2 or 4, depending on what those green thingys at the sides are :-/ *Wants to see the new ultralisk*
| So, does anybody recall seeing that Zerg worm-type thing on the Protoss SC2 Gameplay vid? Is that an underground transport or something? An organism made to replace the Nydus Canal? Any info would be nice. I always thought it'd be cool to have a Zerg unit able to move while burrowed, like the Lurker, only not immobile. Of course, that could potentially skew the balance, depending upon what sort of attacks the burrowed Zerg unit had. -Jax-
There are 8 eyes, 4 on each side... And those big green things on the sides are probably the Ventral Sacks?!
there are Anti-gravity Generators
OH MY GOD< ZERG!!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG! WAHOO!!! FINALLY
TheHybrid: Um, No. Ventral means bottom. Underside. Beneath. Downwards. Thus, ventral sacs are sacs on the underside. Not the left and right.
Right, and it was obvious... God, I feel stupid sometimes...
| yay finally zerg. Kruiks those small green things are eyes... And did everyone notice the nice bloddy explosion to the left of the zerglings in 3. overlord shot ym missle turret? w00 33rd post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wtf......i got all excited.....and only new thing i see is overlords!??!???
the green blood is a tad... disconcerting... je n'aime pas
Hell yes!
| Jaxander: Blizzard said they were called Nydus Worms. In fact, I think the guy talking about them in the video actually said that too. All we know is that they appear somewhere, and Zerg units can come out of them. Anything beyond that is speculation. Though, I'd speculate they're just a nydus canal replacement. Anyhoo, overlord design has changed. Well... from the 2D sprites, that is. In SC1, Blizzard had all the concept art and full ideas of what the units looked like. What we saw in the game was somewhat different from this, due to the sprite limitations. You can really tell what they looked like from the cinematics, eg. It's good that now Blizzard can make the units look as they were intended, as they're no longer just 2D sprites ![]() That being said, the overlord does look like it was intended, except for that new... green thing... Hmm... thinking about it now, it could be there really for team colours. Actually, yeah, I could imagine that. I eat people. -Crazyoldman
They seem to favor green..... suuussssspiiicioussss
| Nice. 2 problems: a. WHY THE HELL DO THE LINGS LOOK LIKE GRASSHOPPERS OMFG b. The mutas look weird. Im scared.
@ Crazyoldman: You're wrong about the cinematics/ingame thing. The cinematics are how they intended everything to look at the time the cinematics were made. I.E., alpha/beta. You'll notice that in the SC alpha/beta/whatever, rines do have grenades, hydras do melee, etc. You'll notice that the cinematic zerglings are like little 4 limbed hydralisks, not what they look like in their final portrait. Sprite limitations don't extend to portraits. The definitavely accurate designs are the 3D models from the time of the actual final game, i.e. the ones used to render the sprites that are pictured in the manual.

i got the new starcraft book last week and almost finish reading it!!!! it came to my house before thanks giving hehehe
u guys do know that those green pods on the Overlord are probably the pneumatized carapace which contains biologically modified vespene gas, hence the green color
i think thats the first ss with snow map ive seen
Everything is so round!! fukin blow up bounce cage barracks with the plastic balls you can get lost in LOL
the green blood is probably from the banelings
The size of the viking is just rediculous!
None of these pictures have vikings in them. :/
| Oh, hobbiton, that's not really what I meant. Though I don't remember seeing a marine use a grendade, hydras can melle because they have long sythes ( I think I spelt that right). That's just logical, really. If it's not in the gameplay, that's a completely different matter. But in any case, their appearance definately hasn't really changed. The zerglings look like these "winged" four-legged things that run around. They didn't look like that in SC1, just from sprite limitations. And I would actually call the portrait deceiving, it only shows the head of a Zergling. But most of the portraits are actually what the unit looks like, if it shows an adequate amount of the unit. Oh, how about the large characters in the campaign selection screen? They all look like how they're meant too. I eat people. -Crazyoldman
| @ ValValiant4: That thing I'm guessing you're referring to is the Thor and yes, it's huge. Also, the game is starting to look more and more like Starship Troopers...
Also, SC1 lings in the cinematics have spikey segmented tails, 4 limbs, birdlike back-feet and scythes on their arms. SCG zerglings in cinematics have 4 legs, each with 2 large claws, much shorter tails, giant tusks, and 2 arms sticking out of their backs with scythes on them. SC2 zerglings have multiple scythlike blades on their regular arms and the arms coming out of their backs, and WINGS. They change their designs, just like all game companies do. The cinematics are different from the game. It's not just sprite limitations. Notice how the cinematic carriers don't have the large side fin-like projections that the sprite has? Things are different.
| What's up with the new zerglings? I always thought that zerglings looked like raptors, or some type of lizard. And it's the same with the observor and the siege tank, the design was bettter in the origional starcraft. I wish they would have kept the old designs. Well, at least the new overlord design is good.
| bah idiots the zerg eloved ITS BEEN 4 YEARS SINCE THE LAST ZERG SIGHTING
| Seriously, I wouldn't say Zerglings were shown in that much detail in the cinematics, if shown at all. And they did have wings. And they did look like they do now. Go watch the final cinematic in the Zerg campaign, for SC1 Original (not Broodwar), the one where the Overmind lands in Aiur (did I spell that right...mer..). There's a flash of Zerglings running past. They have wingy things, and look like they do in SC2. I eat people. -Crazyoldman Oh, PS: If you want to see overlords, take a look at the cinematic before the overmind landing in Aiur, the one of the Zerg "warping". There's a few overlords there, once again, looking very different to in-game. I eat people. -Crazyoldman
| Finallyyyyyyy!! ZeRg! Lol. StarShip troopers Look a that slowy and green "doted" Overlord (¬¬ the only new unit) !! I like both ling design. @TheHybrid; there are Vikings in the frame, and maybe are a bit small, or in SC2, marines are too big, is a problem of units size. I think dificult to solve, because always one units are bigger or smaller than others, but yes, this difference is accepted between ground and air units, NOT between ground and ground units. P.D: Somebody take a look at my Kerrigan FanArt, click on my name.
Good job, blizzard! I cant wait to play SC2.
Whats the Zerg unit on the upper right picture? I don't see any Zerg units there.
| Read the responses - there arent zerg in it, its jus an extra picture blizzard stuck us with. I'm through explaining this again n again.
to idiot one those are zerg mutalisks zerglings and banelings and maybe a nydus canal
None of these pictures have nydus canals or worms.
| This game is coming along nicely. PS. I just finished book Two of the Dark Templar saga. This stuff is AWESOME! I highly recommend reading this series.
| Sounds great, I'm just starting the 7th Harry Potter. XD Anyhoo, I just noticed AJ said something about an in-depth explanation within the week. Yay! Can't wait! I eat people. -Crazyoldman
| I sure look forward to the Hydralisk myself as well "DEADFAST"...as long as it's good, it's worth the wait! [Knightmare's Hydralisks automatically nod] I don't really know about Pre-Beta..I'm studying 3D artwork as well as Game Design, and I think they probably have a few mre months in there...no doubt Blizzard's busier than a Zerg Hive cluster right now, just making StarCraft 2...still, I give the artists, both 3D and 2D, a THUMBS-UP for their excelent work...hope they don't mind if I learn from their style a little. LOL I look forward to the updates on the Zerg, who are my favorite species for imitation...you probably never will hear a Zerg like me...I sound like I'm wounded...LOL --KNIGHTMARE-- P.S. Will there be any means of adding new units, structures, tilesets, or doodads to the EDITOR???? I may sound crazy, and I understand its hard enough work to make a 3D StarEdit, but the Zerg inside me can't help asking. Nor can my hunger for all that wonderful innovation you guys have already integrated. XD
| All I know is that i hope the new editor allows mappers to MAKE new units rather than simply modify existing ones. I'd like to have more than just two different marines, if I could. Also, I hope it's as easy to pick up and use as StarEdit was. The WCIII Editor I never really got into. Also, anyone know what the difference between a Zergling and a Baneling is? If I'm looking at this ss right, the Baneling looks like a Zergling stuffed into a green marshmallow. What significance does that unit have?
Oh, now I can count 8 eyes as well, for some funny reason I thought all those four blots were only a single eye ;o
| in the upper right picture in the bottom right theres a bunker to the bottom left of bunker theres a suspicous stuckure baneling looks bigger

, and the Lurkers!
