Ah, the "you are what you eat" idea. Nice try. So I suppose that pro-lifers can't mow their lawns because it destroys some small amount of life. So, you play the side of the Orcs on battle for Middle Earth 2-does that make you a guts and glory psychopath? I don't play Starcraft for the blood and guts, I play it for the strategy. This is the same reason why I play chess, and the same reason why I write about conflict. I'm really sick of people like you using Bulverism to portray pe ...

Well, the spelling and punctuation were off. I've seen worse, but once I ran into the numerous "Prottos", the bubble of your story was essentially popped. Technically, there wasn't much that you did wrong, but there was so much that you could have done right or better! For example, the general tone of the story is kind of mixed. At the first paragraph it's gritty and personal, but the rest kind of flatlines. For example, the description of the alarm and such is rather "meh&qu ...

I should probably lengthen it, shouldn't I? I didn't want it to detract from the overall plot, but I suppose I could take the time to add some tension in there. As for Tarsis, I wanted him to seem efficient enough to dispatch them with relatively little difficulty, and considering your reaction, I think that I hit the mark. Please take the time to vote on this. Also, as something of note that you might wish to take into account, the EF is going to kick back in again. I do not wish for t ...

Proto, you are over the top. Your rating system and points? Fine. Your rating of the story? Fine. I agree with it. Your impartiality and personal critique, in comparison, sucks. 1) You always sound as if you've got some personal agenda. 2) Your writing sucks as well, and yet you are far less critical on it. 3) You assume to have abilities that, in truth, you don't have. For instance: an advanced vocabulary. Truth? No. In fact, I'm convinced that I could pick an eighth grader off the street ...

Here's my two cents. Proto deserved to get kicked. Actually, we kept him on far longer than we should have. He was not, despite what he says, the "almighty creator." He ran around, called Protochick a whore, put in his opinion where it was not needed, and screwed things up for the person who was working on the storyline. Namely: me. If it wasn't for him, I'd be heading this thing. As it is, I don't mind the leadership that's in place, but I'm a bit teed that I let him intimidate me ...

I suppose I have to second that. Besides, even the Hydralisk claw needs a certain amount of force to do the work it does. If it was simply hanging in midair and bumped into a tank (or if a Terran were wielding it, for that matter), it would do little damage. So unless you're talking about chafing, I don't see how you have any point. Even a woodcrafting knife (ultra sharp, by the way) can't cut through paper without some force guiding it. In this case, there is none. Honestly, Gonissa: did you ...

Ugly is a lame excuse against it (considering that that's the point), and, in my opinion, so is "chafing." If you didn't notice, the Protoss are reptilian based, not mammal based like the Terran. Their skin can handle it. And if you are afraid about some Hydralisk coming up and shoving the teeth deeper into their faces, I'm just going to say this: the Protoss rely on SHIELDS for their protection, not health. I doubt that a Hydralisk would be able to take advantage of that anyway. It' ...

Those teeth draw a certain effective, though stereotypical, earth reference. The Dark Templar operate out of a tribal sort of system. Remember your history? The Earth Indian tribes? Teeth trophies? Huh? Makin' sense now? It's a matter of symbolism, in my opinion. The Terran and the Protoss are more alike than many would think, and Blizzard acknowledged this in both Brood War and the original Starcraft. Plus there is the psychological effect offered by those trophies. They really do want, i ...

I meant "mean business" in my comment before, not "mean difference." They are in a war, and are thus suited up for one. Changes are made, and the Dark Templar smartly prepare for heavy battle, not the small disconnected skirmishes they were in before. Time's Immortal guardian -Haladras ...

Yeah, but frankly the whole ninja thing is a Terran reference, not representative of the Protoss as a whole or even the Dark Templar. The Grim Reaper image shows a sort of universal icon. Not only that, but the armor shows that they mean difference. Before that, the Dark Templar were mentioned to be Elite warriors, but the sprite doesn't really tell us that. The new Reaper-like weapon that they use sort of personifies their elite-ism, if that makes any sense. Time's Immortal guardian -Hala ...

This might be a tiny bit off topic, but I'm kind of fed up with everyone pointing to their favorite race and shouting, "They'll be the best, all the others will just get their butts kicked." People should know right now that that's just naiive. A company that has been doing this for decades would not screw up so badly as to hand all the bloody plusses to one race or the other, especially having a "when it's done" timeline. It wouldn't make sense, and while the playing s ...

Alright, let me be specific... While these are simply "marines outfitted with Jetpacks and ion-boosters", they still have their own jargon and way of saying thigs. In here, it's all marine jargon. You notice, for example, that Airforce terms aren't used in the army in real life, and vice versa. Not only that, but motivation was simply...gone. All of it was fairly pedestrian, with nothing pushing the characters beyond a few life and death situations which were pretty run of ...

I was wondering when people would start on Reapers. You see, the attractive nature of it is this: Reapers, like Marines, are convicts. If they manage to live past two years, they can go free, their debt to society paid... None have lasted past six months. This is an element which I thought could have made a story like this. Reapers are perfect story material... Unfortunately, this one let me down. The action was fast paced, but it seemed like you missed the very ethica ...

Let me rephrase myself: in the beginning, show your point, don't tell. Show the main character walking through his base camp and watching daily responses to their situation. Oops. Nevermind. I somehow saw a marine in there. In other words, I'm not sure that I should have approved this. Has nothing to do with the universe (nothing tangible enough, at least). You still don't seem like you're going ANYWHERE with this. It took you about a page to start a point of interest at all, other than the fact that you (the character) like the fog. Character development was way too blatant. Instead of showing the character as how they react to things, you seem to be content with letting things sort of run off by themselves. Not cohesive. In my opinion, this is one of the worst things that you could do in a story. Especially if it's a marine's testimony. Realize that these are former criminals. Hardened. You can give a different version, like he was improperly convicted or he is really a sweety, but it has to be subtly worked in. We need ...

Mengsk, in my opinion, is very prideful, and I think that he delights in seeing human reaction. Mengsk is an individual who, in the long run, loves being one step ahead of anyone. You notice that, throughout the Brood War and Starcraft campaigns, Mengsk displays a very acute sense of showmanship. That's my take on it, though. I also think that this was a poor choice of content, a bit of spur-of-the-moment romanticism-romanticism in the sense that you probably actually felt that this would go over without a hitch. This was a mistake on both parts: on the part of the author, who didn't understand what bomb he was lighting, and on the part of the readers, who decided that this was a meeting ground for some h ...

Hypocrisy isn't in the religion itself, it's in the people who practice it. You can't just scoop up every person in the world and put a title on them. I would appreciate it if people would just stop pretending like they're omniscient. Beliefs are beliefs. People have to make their own choices, and there's nothing you can really do to influence them, regardless of their mindset. Dude, you need to understand the difference between tangible and insubstantial. Did the corporation say anything untoward of plumbers, and did they use Mario repeatedly as the guideline for plumbers-using his foreign, fat template as a blueprint for all plumbers in any of their games? If they simply used Mario as a single, one-time case, then it isn't incriminating. Stereotypes are stereotypes only if they are used in all situations regarding the subject. If he's simply brought up as an an ...

Oh for Pete's sake, Mario is an bias against Italy's plumbers if anything, and furthermore, Mario is a fictional character doing fictional things, making him immaterial if held up in comparison to the average plumber, as he does not necessarily display the typical traits against plumbers or perform actions that lay a bad light on plumbers. So, in essence, Mario would "technically" be a stereotype against plumbers in general, and we all know how ridiculous THAT sounds. Many also ...

That's what you said on mine, Hybrid. Pretty good, but my opinion on the entire series was pretty much given further on. I don't really think much of it. The plot is a tad simplistic and, worse yet, it jumps from place to place very sporadically. The writing is permeated with a juvenile air (to be frank) and doesn't really ring true with me. My answer (if they were to release it right now): FPS, as there's a large crowd for it. Yes, traditions will work better in this case. But you seem to think that the people/accountants (who virtually run the company) are thinking along the same lines. Gee, why did they launch Ghost: to get at the FPS players. Throughout gaming history, companies violate tradition and tendencies to meet what they see as the public want. Company CEOs look at the market, say "there's a need for that" and attempt to fulfill it, regardless of the experience. And if they're really crazy about t ...

It depends on the results of such a decision. We all know that it is for lack of gumption that Blizzard draws away from the prospect of SC2, correct? And it is for that which we pine for, correct? Obviously. We also know the reason for that lack of courage: money. Nowadays, companies must not only consider the quality of the product and the value of it in relation to the industry, but of the profit margins gained or lost by that product and/or franchise. Right. Not only that, but you'll be happy ignoring the Dark Templar. Ignorance is bliss (technically). I think I am, therefore I am...I think. Time's Immortal guardian -Haladras Theoretically. Justice is Time's real guardian, and Justice is blind, so couldn't Justice be deposed by someone else? In that case, wouldn't Haladras be Justice instead of Haladras (theoretically)? ...

Augh. Yoss, you obviously don't understand the old caveat "in the eye of the beholder". JoJaysus might have been looking at it from the wrong perspective, and HE really might have been the condescending little prick. But then again, he might not have. I don't judge on "the overall impression" because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Makes sense, right? I certainly hope so. I guess that's one flaw in poetry, there is no particular guidebook for it. Do you notice that a ...

Eh. Pretty good. I don't think that Tom's justified, though. I thought, personally, that Dontshoot's work was junk. Just plain junk, and anything but exemplary. Yeah, I noticed the extensive vocabulary utilization also. I understand completely, though, as I confuse and befuddle anyone who reads my work and they are forced to ask me the meaning of some word. It's quite a perplexing quandary, and one that gives me little joy. I doubt that this is the only work Tom has enjoyed. Then again, i ...

Made sense. The said 'suit that needs trimming' is the act of an open casket, or a public offering of the body/speech for the 'hero'. The point is that they tend to whitewash war. Very touching, especially considering the current day and age. This also ties in with the superfluous medals and the funeral quotes, or the 'few words from their last dying breaths', to emphasize the government atrocities as they attempt to glorify a man's life to the point of idolatry. I appreciate this, but it did ...

True, but in my experience, pure, unadulterated amounts of reality can both crush spirit and can convince one to give up. I like to take my reality in, but I also moderate it, in order for dreams to arise with more frequently. As you know, a man without dreams is a man without his soul.... By scrapping ideas, I mean starting over, integrating it into your future projects but coming at it from a different perspective. But there are ideas that should be scrapped. Though I like to treat my critics well, I don't mollycoddle them. I contradict them, I point out their faults, but I don't usually fly off the handle. But we all have our ways of dealing with critics, and mine is simply more accomodating than others. I neither approve of other writer's technique, nor do I discourage it. Conspirators is a word. Howevre, it doesn't really save this piece from a barely earned good. Plunder is an action, and it can be used as a noun, as in loot or booty/treasure. I also quickly understood the poem, and Proto is right. Poetry is an appreciation of the things that so quickly escape our notice, but that doesn't mean that you can simply flaunt it above all other forms of literature. Well, you certainly can, but I don't really approve of it. But, after all, you don't really care what ...

Yeah. Well, I don't think I could. High School freshmen can't really get degrees. It's all right, though. I wrote First Blood at the end of last year (when I was an 8th grader). You just have to work all of it a little. Milk your plot as much as you can. By the way, when I said 'the voice of one of the Battlecruisers" I really meant "the voice of the Battlecruiser's captain". The former just doesn't make sense, especially with the ', which denotes the possessive. Time's Immo ...

Anyway. If you want a good SW flavor without the corny lines, less action (though not bereft of it), classic storyline, and amazingly revolutionary ideas and concepts, then you want Asimov. I don't need to say who he is, just his last name. Try the Foundation, as Lucas ripped three-fourths of his "amazing" ideas right off the pages of it. I'm actually pretty teed off, as he is, overall, rather unoriginal in hindsight. Galactic Empire=Asimov, Trantor=Coruscant, Trantor=Asimov....The ...

Um, one thing. The last few lines. '...and together, we shall rule the galaxy." 1)Okay, WAY too much like Star Wars. 2)This is emphasized with the action/action tag that you use for this, the black fist. It sounds like Vader. 3)So corny, it made me laugh. You really need to, in my opinion, change this. Such cliches really don't let people take you seriously. Depends on the perspective. Each facet of the game has its own significance to people, so I don't think, personally, that that's a viable discussion topic.
